In Science, students researched an animal and found out some interesting facts to share. Thanks for coming in today to see  their hard work to create their animal’s habitat and power points.

There was Field Day, the class picnic and yearbook signing. During the final days, we’ll be working on Reader’s Theater and continuing to enjoy some of the special end-of-the-year activities that are taking place around campus, as we reflect on how much learning and growth has taken place in first grade and look to the break that lies ahead, with great anticipation.

Thank you all so much for the wonderful video.  I have played it for anyone that will watch it.

I have enjoyed having your children in my class this year.

Tuesday, 5/23: Early Release – sack lunches in our room.  Everything must go home today!

Wednesday, 5/25: Early Release & LAST DAY of SCHOOL  Sack lunches in out room.  5th grade talent show.

Remember no back packs on the last day of school.

Students will not be able to bring home anything on the bus!

Enjoy Your Weekend! 🙂

Looking forward to seeing everyone Monday!

Eight Days Remain, But Who’s Counting?

Important Dates:
Wednesday, 5/17: Field Day (K-2)
Thursday, 5/19 Class Picnic
Tuesday, 5/23: Early Release
Wednesday, 5/24: Early Release & LAST DAY of SCHOOL

First in Math Rankings: First place in 1st grade.

Media Center: All library books were due today. It was our class’ final visit of the year. Mr. Carr shared details regarding Cobb’s Summer Reading Program. Students’ user names and passwords will be sent home for your use over the summer. In the event that your child misplaces their information while school is out, please contact the local library and they can assist you with that process. If you have any questions regarding overdue books, please don’t hesitate to let us know or you can email Mr. Carr directly at jason.carr@cobbk12.org.

Writing, Reading, Math: These learning segments have centered about reviewing concepts learned over the course of first grade, and in math, continued exposure to/practice with fractions.

Science: Students have each prepared an animal power point. Next week, they will continue to work on animal research in the Computer Lab and will prepare their animal habitat during the upcoming week. Our class along with Mrs. McGee’s class planted flowers in the garden to attract butterflies. The students brought home their green bean plants. We are still keeping an eye on our radishes.

Social Studies: We started our Goods and Services unit. The students are learning the differences between a good and a service.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the Wonderful Moms!

Important Dates:
May 8th : Portfolio Celebration — 8:00
May 17th: Field Day K-2
May 19th: Class Picnic
May 23rd: Early Release
May 24th: Early Release and LAST DAY OF SCHOOL

First in Math Rankings: Closing out the school year, still maintaining first place in 1st grade at Rocky Mount.
Now that we’ve entered the month of May, there’s a lot of excitement in the air, as students and teachers alike are counting down the days until summer. That said, there are still some work-related tasks to complete, in addition to some special year-end activities in which to participate before it’s all said and done.

Thanks to Kenric’s mom, Pearl, for being our mystery reader today.

We also need to thank Kenric’s mom and Camden’s mom for doing such a wonderful job with our last Art Wonders for the year.

Also, Sean’s mom came in to assist and see what Art Wonders is all about.

This past week, students spent time completing several in-class projects, in anticipation of portfolio celebration. End-of-the-year assessments are taking place as well, in Reading, Writing and Math.

Media Center: Our class visited the Learning Commons and heard stories. They had the chance to check-out at least one book on their Lexile level and another book of their choosing. Our class’ final trip to the Learning Commons for this school year will take place on Friday, May 12th; so, please remember to send in all overdue and recently checked out books, as the Media Center staff and volunteers will be working feverishly to complete year-end inventory of all books.

Science: Students are working on animal research for their power points, the final Life Science unit of the academic year. Remember to send in your child’s shoe box, if you have not already done so.
On Thursday we went to STEM lab. The students got to build things and operate a Sphero.

Check out pictures and videos on your child’s SeeSaw account.

Enjoy Your Weekend!

Good Luck to everyone in the playoffs!
