Week of January 24th

It’s hard to believe that we have been in school over 100 days.  We have all learned so much.  In phonics we worked on Bossy R ~ ir, er, and ur. This week in reading read books about polar bears and brown bears.  We also read individual passages to gain additional information and completed a compare and contrast between the two types of bears.  In writing we continued our opinion pieces.  In math we worked on addends and subtrahends. In social studies we worked on different types of landforms.

Next Week in the Classroom…

Phonics:  Bossy R ar and or, vowel-rr     RED WORDS:  part, before, large, for

Reading:  fiction text, compare and contrast, character traits

Writing: Opinion Writing

Math:  Addition double digit number plus single digit, word problems

Social Studies:  Lewis and Clark

Week of January 17th

We have had a wonderful week!  We read different versions of the Goldilocks and the Three Bears.  We worked on retelling and compare/contrast.  In writing the students wrote about their favorite piece of fruit and their favorite toy.  We are working on giving one reason and supporting it with a detail. In math we worked on greater than, less than and equal to.    In social studies we worked on knowing not only where the continents and oceans but also facts about each one.  For those students who did not do well on the map test I will give them another test on Friday, January 28th.

Next Week in the Classroom…

Can you believe that it is going to be the 100th day of school on Monday?  We will be doing activities in the classroom, but you do need to send in anything.

Week of January 10th

Our first full week back.  This week we have read different Jan Brett books.  We have compared them.  We also have worked on characters, setting, problems, solutions, cause and effect.   In phonics we worked on ow and oe.  We started our opinion writing unit.  We started off with just talking about facts and opinions. We talked about introducing your opinion, stating a reason for that opinion and providing a detail to support the reason.   In math we worked on comparison word problems. We will continue to work on this skill.  Another thing introduced in math was 10 more/10 less.   In social studies we introduced Lewis and Clark but took a break to go over continents and oceans.

Next week…

Phonics: ew, ui, ue    RED WORDS: follow, different, another & around

Reading: We will be looking at different versions of Goldilocks and the 3 Bears. Skills:  Whose point of view is told in each part of the story? Compare and contrast, What is the lesson/message?

Writing: Opinion Writing

Math: Greater than, less than, equal to

Social Studies: Continents and Oceans (study guide to go home Tuesday ~ test on Friday)
