We have a wonderful time this week. Yesterday, we had a holiday party. Thanks to Mrs. Zuniga for planning the party and the wonderful parent volunteers, Mrs. Kayse, Mrs. Symanski and Mrs. Mulligan for a wonderful party. Student’s were filled with excitement when they were doing their holiday stations. Check out the pictures on See Saw.

Dear Class: Thank you so much for the gift cards, the Georgia apron, and the sweet hand tree. You did too much!

In reading, we had a great time this week finishing our unit on gingerbread man. We read a lot of different stories and did a lot of comparing. We also did a STEM activity about building something to help the gingerbread man across the river.  Check out videos and pictures on Seesaw.

In phonics, we reviewed what we have covered over the past 18 weeks.

In writing, finished up our informational writing and will be moving into opinion writing when we return.

In math, we worked with word problems, fractions, and graph activities.  We worked on math facts to 20! We discussed taking the time to think about the best strategy. For example, if solving 14 +2 =__, we know 4 +2 = 6, so 14+2 = 16 OR if solving 7+8=__, we know 7+7=14, so 7+8=15 (doubles plus one).

In Social Studies we reviewed what we have learned about Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson.

Thank you for an awesome first semester!

Enjoy your time together over the winter break!

We had an exciting day at in first grade. Mr. Crespo (Tony’s dad) came in and shared with all of the first grade how he does animation videos for the Weather Channel.  The kids really enjoyed watching the videos and seeing how they were made.  Mr. Crespo told the children that they needed to practice drawing every day if that was a type of job.

Reading: We have read most of the books centered around the topic of  The Mitten by Jan Brett. We also worked on inferences. In phonics, we worked on beginning blends. Next week we will starting ending blends. We started our reading assessments.

Writing: Students completed writing about the steps involved in preparing gingerbread cookies.  I also posted our Favorite Toys books that will be put in the time capsule in your child’s Seesaw account.

Math: We worked on word problems, addition and subtraction to 20, true and false, collection and answering questions on the data collected.   It is time to start practicing math facts to 10 (addition/subtraction) as part of weekly practice.  You can call out facts in the car, play games, match flashcards, draw a part part total box and have your child write the facts to match, do math facts on IXL, etc. Keep it fun!

Social Studies: We continue to learn about Thomas Jefferson. We are all amazed on all the things that Thomas Jefferson did and the role he played to help form the United States of America. We even did a virtual tour of his house, Monticello.  So many of you kids want to live in his house.
