Way to go!  We finished our 2nd full week of Digital Learning!  I hope you are doing as well as can be expected during this unprecedented time. I know there have been challenges, but I hope you and your families have been able to take a break and enjoy some fun time together as well.  I have enjoyed our Zoom meetings and so glad Dr. Doolittle, Mrs. Brown and Mrs. McCleskey have been able to join us. We all miss seeing you each day.

I encourage you to continue to work hard but also enjoy time with your family.

Remember, if you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to me via email.

I will send you the assignments for the week and then I will send the daily assignments to you the night before.

We had a busy week with finishing up assessments. The children worked really hard this week. Here are some things we did.

Writing: This week, we concluded our Opinion unit. Students have done a tremendous job on stating their opinion, providing at least three reasons with a detail for each, and closing their piece by restating their opinion and encouraging their reader to take action.  Narrative Writing will be the next topic that is covered.

Reading: In Reading, students worked on refining their comparing and contrast.

Math: In Math, students practiced place value, double digit adding and subtracting, greater than, less than, missing parts (__ – 4=12) and the making ten strategy. We also did a review on fact families. Next week we will be working with shapes. We will still be visiting the balanced equation problems.

Science: We worked on our unit on animals. We have started our animal research on Pebblego.

It is hard to believe that we have finished our 3rd nine weeks of school.

Your children brought home work today to have during this time out of school.  I will be emailing you with assignments to do also.  Also, 1:00 daily you can go to Rocky Mount website and check out a book being read by Mrs. Fleming, Dr. Dolittle or one of the specialist.

I hope to see you all very soon. 🙂

Thank you to Mrs. Blank for coming in on Monday and sharing some of her favorite books.

In reading we compared and contrasted text with Dr. Seuss’ books the focus of this week’s lessons, in additions to working in small reading groups and completing centers. We also worked on retelling with details, identifying who is telling the story and explaining how we know. We read different Dr. Seuss books thought out the week. With Monday being Dr. Seuss’ birthday and Read Across America Day, students had the opportunity to hear The Sneetches. And, they were able to participate in some themed rhyming activities where they could create words and original creatures, inspired by Dr. Seuss.

In writing we worked on writing a letter to persuade.  Your child brought home their letter today.  Your reply is due Tuesday, March 10th.

In Math, students practiced place value, double digit adding and subtracting, 10 more and 10 less. They also worked very hard on word problems.

Science: We completed our research books on our animals. Next week, students will pick another animal and we will do research and make a SWAY presentation.

It’s hard to believe that we will finish our 3rd Nine Weeks of school on Friday, March 13th.
