Week of December 6th

This week the students worked hard to finish up assessments and we are all looking forward to doing some fun activities next week.  In phonics we worked on “oa” words and we talked about prefixes and suffixes.  We read a lot of different Gingerbread books this week.  I think the class was amazed on how many different books there are. In informational writing we wrote how to pieces.  We worked on how to make smores and how to make Gingerbread cookies.  In social studies wrapped up our unit on Thomas Jefferson.

Next Week…

Phonics:  Review

Reading: Christmas Around the World.  We will be looking at different traditions around the world.

Writing:  Informational

Math: Review: writing numbers to 120, strategies for addition and subtraction, place value, true and false and graphing

HOMEWORK: This week you child will be bringing home 2 game boards (front to back) to practice addition and subtraction.  They need to play at least one game of each.  They will keep the boards at home.  Playing the games will help build fluency.  Also, your child is bringing home a BINGO board.  They need to try to get at least 4 in a row.  If they are unable to get 4 in row, they can just pick at least 4 activities to do.  They just need to return the BINGO board when they are done.
