I hope everyone had a wonderful winter break! It was exciting to see everyone Monday.

Thanks to Mrs. Vincent for being our mystery reader today.

Reading: Comparing and contrasting text with similar topics was the focus of this week’s lessons, in additions to working in small reading groups and completing centers. We also worked on retelling with details, identifying central message and explaining how we know. We read different Cinderella books.  We discussed point of view, character traits and compare and contrast. Kids also worked on cause and effect.  Ask you child questions about cause and effect.

Writing: The week in opinion writing we worked on writing our opinion and supporting it with reasons. We started out persuasive writing. You will be seeing it come home next week.

Math: Students practiced with missing addend. They also worked on double digit subtraction and subtraction word problems.

Science:  We started our unit on animals.  Students were able to pick out their own animal and get a book from the media center.  They are doing their own research and writing in their research books.

Also, remember to send in a snack, daily, with your child. I have found that they don’t always like the few items that I may have in the classroom, for times such as those.
